Car Lockout Tool Instructions: Mastering the Air Wedge and Trim Stick

The air wedge is an essential tool in any car lockout kit. This inflatable device creates the necessary space between a car door and its frame, allowing for entry tools to be used. By pumping the air wedge, you expand the bladder, widening the gap. A quick release button deflates the wedge when needed. The trim stick, often a simple plastic wedge, works in conjunction with the air wedge. It’s inserted into the gap created by the air wedge and used as a lever to maintain space and maneuver past weatherstripping. Lubricating the trim stick with soapy water can prevent damage to the weatherstripping.

When using an air wedge, inflate it gradually and only as much as required to create sufficient space. Overinflating can stress the door latch and potentially cause permanent damage. Ideally, position the air wedge near the rear upper corner of the door. This location offers optimal access while minimizing the risk of damage to the latch or hinges. Although steel doors are resilient, excessive force can still warp them.

The trim stick also has standalone applications. It can be used to exploit vulnerabilities in non-seamless sliding windows, a common entry point in certain truck models. In these cases, the trim stick alone might be enough to gain access to the vehicle. Remember, while these tools are effective for car lockouts, they should be used responsibly and with caution to avoid causing unnecessary damage.
