Allison Rose O’Toole, age 28, tragically passed away in a car accident on December 15, 2019. Born on March 15, 1991, in Durham, North Carolina, Allison was a remarkable individual who touched many lives with her kindness and dedication. From a young age, Allison excelled academically and possessed an insatiable thirst for knowledge. She was an exceptional student and an avid reader, traits that defined her early years and beyond. Allison graduated from Durham School of the Arts in 2009, showcasing her artistic talents with a focus on photography. Continuing her education, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013. Driven by a desire to make a difference, Allison was pursuing a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University at the time of the car accident, aiming to dedicate her life to helping others navigate their challenges.
Helping others was not just a career path for Allison; it was a core aspect of her personality and a lifelong passion. She had a natural talent for empathy and support, making her a cherished friend, family member, and aspiring counselor. She is survived by her parents, Kelly (Riecss) and Christopher O’Toole, her sister, Shannon O’Toole, her grandparents, Helen and Michael O’Toole, her partner, Jereme Stewart, and her great aunt and uncle, Josephine and John Michael Muchmore, alongside numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who deeply mourn her loss after this unexpected car accident.
A celebration of Allison’s life was held on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Holy Infant Catholic Church in Durham, NC. Friends and family gathered to remember and honor Allison, with a visitation preceding the service and a reception following. In a reflection of Allison’s vibrant spirit, bright colors were encouraged in place of traditional black attire. Allison’s commitment to education was further highlighted by her selection to attend The NC Governor’s School Summer program for English in 2008, an experience that profoundly prepared her for higher education. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to The NC Governor’s School Foundation, supporting scholarships for future students, reflecting Allison’s passion for education and opportunity.
