Allison Rose O’Toole, a vibrant 28-year-old, tragically lost her life in a car accident on December 15, 2019. This unexpected loss deeply affected her family, friends, and community who remember her for her dedication to helping others and her artistic spirit. Born in Durham, NC, on March 15, 1991, Allison’s life was marked by academic excellence, creative pursuits, and a passion for mental health.
A Bright Mind and Compassionate Heart
Allison was a gifted student and avid reader. After graduating from Durham School of the Arts in 2009 with a focus on photography, she pursued higher education at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2013, demonstrating her commitment to understanding the human mind. Driven by a desire to help others, Allison was working towards a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University at the time of the accident.
A Life Filled with Creativity and Love
Beyond her academic achievements, Allison had a deep love for artistic expression. Photography, writing, and crocheting were just some of the ways she channeled her creativity. She also cherished time spent with loved ones, immersing herself in nature, and enjoying the tranquility of the beach. Her infectious laughter and vibrant personality left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
Honoring Allison’s Legacy
Allison’s family, including her parents Kelly (Riecss) and Christopher O’Toole, her sister Shannon O’Toole, and her partner Jereme Stewart, along with countless other relatives and friends, continue to cherish her memory. A celebration of Allison’s life was held on December 21, 2019, at Holy Infant Catholic Church in Durham, NC. The family requested attendees wear bright colors instead of black, reflecting Allison’s vibrant spirit.

In 2008, Allison was selected to participate in the prestigious NC Governor’s School Summer program for English. This experience significantly impacted her educational journey.
