The meticulous work on the front suspension and brake system is now complete, showcasing a dedication to realism that collectors admire. For the rotors, the Machined Aluminum Specialties FC PE set was utilized, demonstrating a commitment to using high-quality aftermarket components. Calipers were sourced from a Tamiya Rally kit; while slightly oversized, their visual impact is perfectly in scale with the overall build. Protech .018 braided line, coupled with small bead crimp collars in silver acting as fittings, creates incredibly realistic brake lines, a detail that stands out to discerning eyes.
Another successfully completed element is the rear wheelie bar, a feature often seen on high-performance collector cars. This component was skillfully fabricated using 5/16 aluminum tubing, enhanced with PE (photo-etched) parts for added detail. A section of solid plastic tubing was chosen for the wheel itself, and RB Motion Heim joints and hardware ensure robust and realistic articulation.
Initially, a Competition Resins front nose prop was acquired to display the detailed chassis with the nose elevated. However, to further refine the model and align with the high standards of collector cars, a decision was made to fabricate a new prop. This custom piece was crafted from 5/16 aluminum tubing and .062 solder, finished with thin aluminum ends, demonstrating a pursuit of perfection in every aspect of the model.
Significant progress has been made on the engine, the heart of any collector car, even in miniature. The Kobelco bagged Supercharger, sourced from Competition Resins, adds a powerful visual element. Front pulleys from Scale Repros Plus and idler pulley brackets from the MAS PE FC set contribute to the engine’s intricate detail. The injector plate atop the charger is also from the MAS PE FC set, further enhancing realism. Injector lines and gold fittings, sourced from the craft aisle, introduce a touch of color and refinement. For the belt, a departure from the readily available options is being considered. While cogged belts from MAS are appealing, their thickness might be disproportionate. The quest for the perfect belt continues, reflecting the high standards expected in collector-grade models.
The naked chassis, with the engine now in place, offers a preview of the extensive detailing work invested in this project. The level of intricacy hints at the final, display-ready quality that is sought after in collector car models.
With the body placed on the chassis, the overall form of this collector car model begins to emerge. The custom-made front hood prop is a clear improvement, enhancing the presentation and allowing for a better view of the detailed engine and chassis underneath.
A rear view highlights the distinctive and functional-looking wheelie bar. This feature not only adds to the aggressive stance of the model but also showcases the builder’s attention to authentic details found on high-performance collector cars.
The glimpse of the metal plate visible through the window adds a final touch of realism. This subtle detail captures the essence of meticulously crafted collector cars, where even hidden elements contribute to the overall authenticity and visual appeal.
